Space Clearing Sprays
Okie, time for an urban hoodoo’s take on space clearing sprays. I love creating clearing sprays for a few reasons:
- My dorm has sensitive smoke detectors.
- They smell good. I like that.
- They work.
Making a space clearing spray is really very simple. There are a few basic steps:
- Combine water, oils, flowers, crystal energy, salt, etc.
- Say some prayers, sing some songs, do whatever.
- Spray it everywhere!!
Essential Oils
Generally I like to combine around three different oils. Experiment and you’ll find a blend that works well for you.
I like to put each oil on a q-tip or strip of paper and combine the q-tips in different ways. That way I’m not wasting a lot of oil before finding the blend that I want.
- Palo Santo – for clearing and breaking up dense energy.
- Sage – for clearing and purifying a space – also very powerful!
- Silver Fir – for gently clearing and purifying.
- Lavender – for disinfecting, purifying, and promoting relaxation.
- Rosemary – for protecting and detoxifying
- Frankincense – for uplifiting the spiritual vibration of a space
- Lemon – for bringing an energetic brightness to a space
- Cypress – for breaking up super stagnant energy and creating “flow”
Keep in mind that a space clearing spray is meant for clearing energy, and not for aromatherapy, so you don’t actually need to use too much oil in your blend.
Flowers/Plants
I like to choose just one of these, but if you wanna use more that’s up to you. I suggest flower petals or physical parts of the plant over oils based on them, since you’ve already balanced your oils for the blend.
Protection
- St. John’s Wort – amazing protective energies, empowers emotional and mental energies
- Yarrow – strengthening aura, very protective if you’re sensitive to energies from electronics and aspects of city living
- Angelica – invokes the energy of ancestors
- Garlic – repels entities, ghosts, bugs, and parasites
Detoxification
- Dandelion – removes small traces of negative energies
- White sage – very sacred purifier
- Aspen – clears negative energies from spaces; great for cleansing an area of fearful energy
- Walnut – the spell breaker, breaks our links with the past so we can move forward, helps with energetic cobwebs
Enlightening
- Sunflower – cleanse gloomy spaces that don’t receive much sunlight
- Lavender – calms all energies and makes it easy to control or remove them
- Jasmine – spiritual enlightenment, mental focus, self-love and self-control
Of course, there are more you could use. If a plant is calling to you, use your intuition.
Crystals
Choose any number of crystals/stones that you feel work, but don’t use ridiculous amounts like 12 crystals in one spray. Shoving too much energy into one set will just fuck up the whole thing.
Try to find crystals/stones with ties to your name, culture & ethnicity, birthplace, gender, and whatever aspects of your identity that you find important. Most of the crystals I use are tied to me being Black and Puerto Rican, Queer + Non-binary, and the fact that my name is Jazper.
- Jasper – various powers depending on color and region but all jasper stones are useful for the following: spiritual empowerment, self-determination, protecting yourself, creativity, leadership, dependability
- Black Tourmaline – releases and clears energy on all levels, powerful cleanser, amazing for helping with electronic energies
- Smoky quartz – promotes detoxification from the mental, physical, and emotional bodies
- Kyanite – excellent for gently clearing the energy from a space, this stone doesn’t hold negative energies and rarely needs to be cleansed
- Amethyst – raises energy from lower to higher frequencies, helps with controlling energies, amazing with preparing a space for a ritual
Salt
Choose 1 or mix a few together. Salt is an amazing purifier and different salts have different energies.
- Pink Himalayan sea salt carries a love vibration.
- Gray sea salt is a bit like smoky quartz and it is really effective with energies that are super stuck.
- White sea salt also does wonders and is very neutral. You can also experiment with other salts you might find!!
