  • a bottle, jar, or other container that can be sealed tightly
  • leaves (you could use fake leaves or real ones, more details to follow)
  • things that symbolize prosperity to you (more on this later)
  • a pen or marker of any color you wish (I used a black Sharpie)

Start with your leaves. I used dried holly leaves, since lore has it that holly is not only good for protection, but also good for prosperity!

Write your desires and goals on each leaf. They could be as simple as “get more money” or “get a job”. (I included “work ethic” in my spell jar, because one of my resolutions this year is to work on becoming a better person, and I don’t have much luck in the workforce.) Also, you can use green, silver, or gold ink to represent money, etc. if you choose.

Add those to your vessel of choice (jar, bottle, tupperware, etc.)

Now here’s where the spell gets customized; Choose any amount of things that make you think of money or prosperity, and toss them all into your vessel! You could use gold and silver glitter to represent the actual things, you could use sequins of the appropriate colors to symbolize coins, bells to represent the sound of loose change, herbs that bring good fortune and prosperity, any number of things can go into your jar, as long as they come from your heart and personal beliefs. 

My personal spell jar consists of a Ball jar with a rubber-seal lid, holly leaves, gold and silver glitter, oats, cinnamon, almonds, pecans, and dill. (I would have included basil as well but apparently we’re out…)

I also included an incantation that I whispered into the jar, but the great thing about magick is that it comes from you, and you can do whatever feels right with your spellwork! You can write your own incantation, or leave it out entirely!
