Happy Birthday, Elkhorn Creek – 18 years in the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System!

Elkhorn Creek, near Salem, Oregon, includes 5.8 miles of ‘wild’ river area and a smaller segment of 0.6 miles of ‘scenic’ river area.

Wild and Scenic Rivers are designated under the authority of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968 to protect rivers with outstanding wild, scenic, or recreational values and to preserve the river in its free-flowing condition.
